Amnesty was granted to approximately 4 million illegal aliens in 1986. This was supposedly the last amnesty to be. However, because our governments have blatantly ignored the Immigration Reform & Control Act of 1986 (IRCA), the rate of illegal immigration has exploded to over 20 million illegal aliens. If amnesty were granted to illegal aliens now, it would be all but guaranteed that our government would offer it again in the future. By offering amnesty we are sending a welcome to anyone wishing to cross our borders illegally. Not only will they not be punished, but they will eventually be granted amnesty and receive the same benefits as if they were to have immigrated through legal channels. If the United States was to grant amnesty, the cost of additional government services to millions of legalized immigrants would be over $30 billion annually. The United States cannot afford amnesty.
One of the excuses that our elected officials give for opposing deportation of illegal aliens is that our economy would break down. This is equivalent to saying that stopping drug smuggling would also hurt our economy. This is how things are run in Mexico where people bribe the government in order to get things accomplished. Is this what we really want the United States to turn into?
Another excuse that our officials give for opposing deportation of illegals is that it would be impossible to locate them and round them all up. This excuse doesn't hold water because it is not the least bit necessary to locate and round up illegal aliens. The only thing our governments need to do is to enforce IRCA. Our governments need to fine and/or prosecute all employers, including CEOs of large corporations, for hiring illegal aliens. If illegals cannot find employment here, they will eventually deport themselves. Problem solved! In addition, if it is impossible to locate and round up illegal aliens, just how are we going to go about locating, rounding up, and running background checks on all the criminals who supposedly would be discluded from amnesty or the so-called guest worker program?
Many elected officials, including President Obama, claim that guest worker program helps fill jobs that legal Americans won't do. This is nonsense! These jobs that they speak of are not jobs that Americans won't do. They are jobs which Americans used to do and still would do if the employers would pay living wages. Instead, these employers break the law by hiring these illegals for cheap labor and then paying them under the table to keep from paying any taxes. In addition, illegal aliens costs taxpayers over $20 billion annually for services such as free medical treatment, food stamps, schooling, and the list continues. Even if illegals were to pay taxes, it would be like a drop in the ocean when compared to the amount of public services that they sponge.
In order to advance socially and economically and have something to give back to society, immigrants need to be "Americanized," to assimilate. This is the reason for the process which they are required to go through when legally immigrating. However, most illegal aliens make little or no effort at all to fit in to American society. If granted amnesty, very little assimilation would be required of them which in turn would cause an extremely chaotic culture clash in America which is already apparent in regions such as Southern California. With 20 million plus illegal aliens, the United States has the equivalent of a 51st state second in population only to California and comprising of third world criminals who don't even speak English.
